When you own any type of mini motorcycle you need to do what is necessary in order to keep it running. After all these are used to keep your children happy during the summer months or for you to have some fun racing with all of your friends and family. In order to know how to maintain each of these bikes you must first learn to identify the various parts.
It would be too difficult to go into detail about each and every part that is used to make these run. Instead we will focus on the common mini motorcycle parts that are easy to recognize and will most likely need to be replaced first. You will find that many of these parts look like those on a motorcycle.
Suspension
The majority of mini motorcycles will use the tires to absorb any shock on the roads. However, there are some models that are designed with suspension. More often then not you might discover that the racing models are likely to have them then any other kind. This is an essential part on the motorcycle and if it is broken you will want to replace it as soon as possible. The price for this can be slightly expensive depending on what type you need and what model it goes on.
Powertrain
The power train is the most common and the most useful on any mini motorcycle. The early model were designed with 49cc units that were remodeled after lawn equipment. Each of these were connected to a centrifugal clutch that would turn the back wheel using a drive chain. The more popular these models became the more powerful the engine. Now you can find them with 49cc to 125cc units that are connected with two or four stroke single cylinder variations. This allows the bike to reach up to 70mph.
Brakes
The brakes are some of the most important parts on any motorcycle. This is especially true when you are racing them and reaching speeds of up to 30 or even 50mph. The early models would use the drum type brakes that were used on bicycles. The more modern models now use a cable actuated disc type brake that gives it a higher reliable deceleration. The brakes are built on either the front or the back wheel. If this part is broken you should not drive it until you have repaired it.
